Shopping for a new vehicle can feel a little overwhelming, especially if you aren’t sure where to start. All of the makes, models, trims — there’s a lot out there. And while we can’t speak to the other manufacturers, we can tell you about GMC as a brand, and why you should invest in a model from a company you can trust.
Early Beginnings
The creation of the General Motors (GM) company came to fruition on September 16, 1908, when William Durant noticed the growing idolization of automobiles in America. The company very quickly obtained more than 20 other companies.
During and After the War
In the 30s, 40s, and 50s, GM faced a few challenges due to the war. However, the spirit of the workers was never crushed. They quickly transitioned into producing wartime goods, which resulted in $12 billion worth of equipment (wow!). Airplanes, trucks, and tanks were all produced to bring in revenue and help with supplies. The GM president at the time, William Knudsen, was named Chairman of the Wartime Office of Production Management in ’40, putting the company right on top.
Needless to say, spirits rose when the war had ended. With that sense of peace came the need for more automobiles. GM jumped right back into the swing of things, creating several popular models such as the 1949 Buick Roadmaster and the 1959 Cadillac El Dorado.
1995 – Big Year!
Fast forward a bit, and the company saw one of it’s best years in 1995. Five million vehicles were bought in the US, global growth was established, and GM embarked on its first joint venture agreement in China.
Up To Speed
Now that you’re up to speed on the past, you should probably also know that the new millennium has brought it’s fair share of ups and downs. But every time, now General Motors Truck Company (GMC) pulls itself up and persists with stunning models and trims for everyone to enjoy.
