When you think of the best way to start the new year, you probably don’t think about plunging into the icy water. But for the people who take part in the Pelican Plunge every year, it really doesn’t get better than jumping into the water on Jan. 1. It may sound surprising, but it’s actually really refreshing, and most people are glad they’ve done it once they get out of the water and start to warm up. Are you interested in testing your limits and taking part in this year’s Pelican Plunge? It’s coming up on the first of the year, so you should get the details now. That way, you can start planning ahead. Here’s what you need to know.
The Details
You already know that this event is going to take place on Jan. 1, but do you know where it will be? This year, it’s taking place at 1450 Miracle Strip Pkwy at Fort Walton Beach. Registration takes place the day itself and will be at 10:30 a.m. However, the plunge won’t actually take place until 11:30 a.m. You can expect the whole event to last until about 2 p.m., so make plans to be around for about that long. The experience is free, so no need to worry about paying for a ticket or anything else. Just come out and get ready to have a good time.
Post-plunge Party
Even though you’re going to have a lot of fun taking the Pelican Plunge, when it’s all over, you’re definitely going to want to take some time to warm up. That’s why you should head on over to the post-plunge party. It will be at The Crab Trap, and you can get yourself warm by drinking some hot cocoa or coffee. Oh, and if you’re feeling hungry and need to refuel, grab some gumbo while you’re at it. It’s really out of this world.
