History

The Junior League of the Emerald Coast founded the museum in 1989 to provide families with a place to learn about science together. Dr. Alexis Tibbetts led the effort to create the FOCUS (Families of Okaloosa County Understanding Science) Center, which became a reality through many individuals’ hard work and dedication. In 2001, the FOCUS Center changed its name to better promote the museum as a regional science museum. The new name, the Emerald Coast Science Center, reflects the mission of the center to provide science education for all ages.
