This is a must see in Crestview with some awesome animals and is not your typical zoo. The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge Zoological Park is not very large, not as well known and some of the animals there are not postcard perfect. BUT know that is it worth the drive down that little dirt and really neat! The refuge was once called the Sasquatch Zoo and owned by a local Crestview family for twenty years. In 2013, it was placed in the care of and part of the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge.
Today, the zoo that is located thirteen miles from Destin is home to more than 130 rescue animals of 35 species. Some have been saved from life-threatening brutality, some rescued from closing zoos around the country and then some just needing a temporary home in their journey to a larger habitat. For a smaller zoo, the park had an astonishing assortment of interesting animals. Turkeys, peacocks, a sloth, lemurs, baboons, tigers and bobcats are some to visit just to name a few.
The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge Zoological Park is located at 5262 Deer Springs Drive in Crestview and is open from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM Tuesday through Sunday. The cost is $9 per adult and $6 for children age two to ten and free to those under two. The zoo is very easy to navigate and signs are posted at each intersection giving the direction of each animal exhibit and their names.
